What we do

Software development services built around your actual situation, not a service catalogue.

We do not offer a fixed menu. Every engagement starts from understanding what you need, what constraints apply, and what outcome you are actually trying to achieve. Our services are structured by the type of problem — not by the technology we prefer to sell.

Service overview

Five core methods. Each one matched to a real client situation.

Below you will find how each of our core services works in practice — who it is for, what we do, what is included, and what outcome it is designed to produce. If you are not sure which fits your situation, get in touch and we will help you work it out.

01

Custom Software Development

When your business has requirements that no off-the-shelf solution handles properly, we build from the ground up. Custom software development at VERGEIT means designing the system specifically for how your business operates — its processes, its data, its team and its growth trajectory.

We begin every custom software project with a structured discovery phase. This is not a sales conversation. It is a working session where we map your processes, identify the constraints, question the assumptions in the brief and establish what the software genuinely needs to do. By the time we begin building, both sides have a clear, written agreement on scope, architecture and delivery milestones.

We work across the full stack. Frontend in React, Vue or standard HTML and CSS depending on the project requirements. Backend in Node.js, Python, .NET or whatever is technically appropriate. Database design in PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or appropriate alternatives. We do not have a preferred stack — we have a preferred standard of work.

Enterprise Software Solutions

Larger organisations have a different class of software problem. Legacy systems that cannot be easily replaced but must be integrated with modern tooling. Compliance requirements that shape technical choices. Codebases that multiple teams work in simultaneously. Performance requirements at genuine scale. We have experience across all of these.

Enterprise software work at VERGEIT involves more than technical capability. It requires discipline around documentation, testing standards, change management and communication across multiple stakeholders. We bring that discipline as standard, not as an optional extra.

If you are running a system that was built years ago and is increasingly expensive to maintain, extend or rely on, we can help you understand the real options — whether that is incremental modernisation, a phased migration or a targeted rebuild of the components causing the most friction.

Software Product Development

Building a software product is a different discipline from building internal business software. The unknowns are larger, the feedback loops are longer, and the decisions made in the first months have compounding consequences for everything that follows.

We work with founders and product-led companies to build software products that are architecturally sound from the beginning — not just functional in the short term. That means making deliberate decisions about the technical foundation so that what you build can be extended, scaled and handed to a larger team without requiring a rewrite twelve months in.

We can take a product from concept through to production, or we can enter at any stage of the journey where our expertise is most useful — technical co-founder advisory, architecture review, MVP delivery or platform stabilisation.

API Development and System Integration

Most software problems faced by established businesses are not about building new systems — they are about connecting the ones that already exist. Data that lives in three places and needs to behave as one. Systems that were built by different vendors at different times that have never been designed to communicate. Operational data that exists in a format that cannot be read by the tools that need it.

We design and build APIs and integration layers that are robust, secure and well-documented. We approach integration work with the same rigour as new build work: understand the full picture before proposing a solution, design for failure modes as well as the happy path, test against realistic data volumes and leave documentation that an engineer who was not part of the project can actually use.

Technical Consulting and Architecture Review

Sometimes you do not need a development team. You need a senior engineer's honest perspective on a technical situation — whether that is a system architecture decision you are about to make, a codebase that is becoming expensive to work in, a technology choice with long-term consequences, or a technical team structure that is not producing the results you need.

We offer direct advisory engagements where a senior engineer reviews your situation, asks the questions that matter and gives you a clear, honest assessment. We do not tell you what you want to hear. We tell you what the evidence suggests and what we would do in your position.

Working method

How a project typically begins with us.

  1. 01 You contact us with a brief description of what you need
  2. 02 A senior engineer responds within one business day
  3. 03 We run a discovery conversation — no sales pressure, just clarity
  4. 04 We return a written scope proposal for your review
  5. 05 Once agreed, your named lead engineer is introduced and work begins

We choose the right technology for the problem, not the other way around. Common technologies in our work include:

Our delivery standard

How we deliver — the standards that apply to every project.

Regardless of the service type, every project we take on is delivered to the same standard. This is not a quality tier or a premium add-on. It is the base level we consider acceptable for work that goes to a client.

  • Written scope agreed before any development begins
  • Version-controlled code with meaningful commit history
  • Automated tests on all business-critical application logic
  • Code review for every change before it reaches production
  • Security considerations reviewed at architecture and implementation stages
  • Handoff documentation that reflects the actual system delivered
  • Post-delivery support window on every engagement
Common questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

We price on a fixed-scope basis wherever the project allows us to do so. This means we invest time upfront in understanding the full scope of work before proposing a number, so the price you agree to is the price you pay. For ongoing advisory or consulting work, we use a day or monthly retainer model. We do not use open-ended time-and-materials arrangements unless a project genuinely requires an exploratory phase that cannot be scoped in advance.
Yes. We are based in London and available for in-person meetings with London-based clients, but we work with businesses across the UK and internationally. Most of our project communication happens by video call and in writing, which works effectively regardless of geography. When physical presence is genuinely useful — for workshops, discovery sessions or important reviews — we can arrange it.
We do not have a hard minimum, but we are most effective on projects with a clearly defined scope and a realistic budget for the work involved. Short consulting or architecture review engagements can be run over a few days. Full custom development projects typically run from two to twelve months depending on complexity. If you have a smaller or more exploratory need, we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit or whether a different type of support would serve you better.
Yes, by default. All code written for your project under a custom development engagement is your intellectual property upon delivery. Our contracts are clear on this. We retain no licence over work delivered to clients, and we do not use proprietary frameworks or dependencies that would restrict your ability to work with the codebase in the future.
Scope changes are handled through a straightforward change control process. When a change is identified — whether by the client or by us — we assess the impact on timeline and cost, document it clearly and get agreement before proceeding. We do not absorb scope changes silently and bill for them at the end. Equally, we do not charge for changes that are our error or oversight. The process is transparent and written down.
Every project includes a defined post-delivery support period, during which we are available to resolve issues, answer questions and support your team's onboarding to the new system. Beyond that, many of our clients retain us on an ongoing basis for continued development, maintenance and advisory work. We are not a build-and-disappear company. The majority of our work comes from clients we have already delivered for.
Ready to talk?

We do not start with a proposal. We start with a conversation about your actual situation.

Send us a message describing what you are working on. A senior engineer will read it and respond within one business day — not a sales team, not a contact form response.
